Activating & Engaging Habits of Mind (Habits of Mind, Bk. 2)
Published in Paperback by Association for Supervision & Curriculum Development (September, 2000)
Average review score:

develop self-directed learningThis book was part of a graduate course I took. It is a very good tool for promoting and instilling habits that produce self-directed learners. I was not only able to help my students by reading this book, but I also helped myself become more self-directed. I recommend this book to parents and educators.

Al Smith: Hero of the Cities; A Political Portrait Drawing on the Papers of Frances Perkins
Published in Hardcover by Houghton Mifflin Co (January, 1969)
Average review score:

Interesting biography;recommendedWhile this book can be criticized for simplistic portrayals of the likes of William Jennings Bryan and other characters, its view of Smith is a very good and objective one. His growing up on the streets of New York, his meteoric rise to the governorship and institution of some public assistance programs, his presidential run and his later conservatism are all discussed. Alot of space is given to Frances Perkins, whose unfinished manuscript the book is based on, so the book also serves as a quasi-biography of her life.

Business Phone Book USA 1999: The National Directory of Addresses and Telephone Numbers (21st Edition)
Published in Hardcover by Omnigraphics, Inc. (October, 1998)
Average review score:

A CD ROM version of it would be quite usefulI have gone through the directory and it is well organised. The content is quite comprehensive. However I would prefer a CD version of this directory for reasons of convenience. I couldn't find any mention about the availability or otherwise of a CD version. If it is available I would like to know the rate.

The Captive Imagination: A Casebook on the Yellow Wallpaper
Published in Hardcover by The Feminist Press at CUNY (February, 1992)
Average review score:

Excellent collection.I bought this book hoping to find an essay or two for a college class I'm teaching. The book was so fascinating, I'm going to end up using more of it than I thought. Originally, I was going to photocopy the essays, now I'm just going to have my students buy the book. I would have given it 5 stars except for the "considerable repetition" mentioned above. What is strongest about this book is the different perspectives that it employs.

Directory publishing : a practical guide

practical guide for practical peoplei have been researching the market for a long time, looking for a book that will satisfy my career needs, in a very competitive field. When a friend orderd this book for me, i felt so grateful, that i found it only natural to share my excitment with other potential readers. Whoever is looking for a job at the publishing field, will find this source of information an asset. Browsing the net is time consuming, especially when you don't focus your search. By listing all the companies in the area, this book will allow you to narrow your search and get the best results! what happened to me (after two month of annoying searching for a job) can also happen to you. Give it a chance! It worth each dollar.

Encyclopedia of China: The Essential Reference to China, Its History and Culture
Published in Paperback by Checkmark Books (September, 2000)
Average review score:

Impressively informativeThis encyclopedia is truly packed with tons of noteworthy information from a range of all topics including calligraphy, martial arts ,landscape paintings, history, daily customs, food, geography, etc.. It's a real pleasure to sweep through it when you're looking for something accurate or even to learn for your own. The major drawback about this encyclopedia is the obvious lack of pictures or reproductions that might liven up the whole.
Overall, it's a fairly excellent guide to understanding China, and is almost a must-buy for anyone involved in Chinese Civilization studies, but it is also a very pleasant book for leisure sinophiles!!

Hugh Lofting's Dr.Dolittle and the Pirates
Published in Library Binding by Random Library (June, 1968)
Average review score:

Dr Dolittle and the PiratesThis is a wonderful story for any Dr. Dolittle fan. Dr. Dolittle and his animal friends try to escape from a pirate ship. They are forced ashore and must land on advice from a rat, who can feel that their ship will sink before nightfall. The pirates raid and steal Dr. Dolittle's ship, but Dr. Dolittle and his friends sail away on the lavish pirate ship. The rat's prediction comes true and the original ship sinks; but the pirates are saved by Dr. Dolittle who tells the sharks not to eat the pirates. The price: the pirates must live on the island and feed the beautiful canaries.
